Super Bowl XL Champions Pittsburgh Steelers

Super Bowl XL Champions Pittsburgh Steelers The Pittsburgh Steelers quest for a fifth Super Bowl title was an epic journey that took 26 years to complete. In 2004, the Steelers finished with the best record in the history of the AFC, only to lose the championship game for the fifth time in their last six tries. The loss was particularly painful for the Steeler family because many suspected it would be the final game of Jerome Bettis' career.

But the 5th all-time leading rusher in NFL history returned in 2005, hoping for one more shot at a title. In Week 14, with the team 7-5 and the season on the line, Bettis ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns in a 21-9 victory over the NFC North champion Chicago Bears. The Steelers did not lose again.

Highlighted by a "heart-stopping" sequence that will forever be known in Pittsburgh as the Immaculate Redemption, the Steelers improbable run to a title included wins on the road over the top three seeds in the AFC--the Cincinnati Bengals, the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos.

In Super Bowl XL, played in Jerome Bettis' hometown of Detroit, the Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks and became the first sixth seed in NFL history to win it all.

University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish Collector's Edition

University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish Collector's Edition From coast-to-coast and generation to generation, the proud tradition of Notre Dame football has been built by celebrated players and historic performances. This 8-DVD set includes seven complete classic Notre Dame victories:

Vol. 1—1977 "the Green Jersey Game" vs. USC
When the Irish charged the field to meet the USC Trojans, clad for the first time in green jerseys, tradition was turned aside. Led by Joe Montana, Notre Dame won 49-19.

Vol. 2—1978 Cotton Bowl vs. Texas
Commanding performances by Joe Montana, Jerome Heavens, and Vagas Ferguson propelled the team from number five in the polls to national champions after this impressive 38-10 victory.

Vol. 3—1979 Cotton Bowl vs. Houston
Joe Montana and a surging defense rallied the Irish in below zero wind chill weather. This heart-stopping, final second 35-34 victory instantly became one of college football's most memorable comebacks.

Vol. 4—1988 Regular Season game vs. Miami
Miami started the game with a 36-game regular-season winning streak and a menacing defense. However, it was the Notre Dame defense that forced seven turnovers to secure a 31-30 win.

Vol. 5—1989 Fiesta Bowl vs. West Virginia
Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz used the press to solidify the belief that the Irish had their hands full with the mighty West Virginia defense. But it was Notre Dame that supplied the defense while Irish quarterback Tony Rice passed for over 200 years and two touchdowns in the 34-21 victory.

Vol. 6—1992 "The Snow Bowl" vs. Penn State
In their last home game, three players led a brilliant Irish comeback in the swirling snow of Notre Dame Stadium. With 20 seconds on the clock, Rick Mirer's touchdown pass to Jerome Bettis set up the winning two-point conversion from Mirer to Reggie Brooks. The Irish won, 17-16.

Vol. 7—1993 Regular Season Game vs. Florida State
After top-ranked Florida State scored early, the Irish pounded the Seminoles defense for 239 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The stout Notre Dame defense held tight to preserve a 31-24 victory and end Florida State's 16-game winning streak.

Bonus Disc—1966 vs. Michigan State (Second Half)
This disc features the only surviving footage of the historic contest between the #1 ranked Irish and the #2 Spartans. Punctuated by a tactical decision by Ara Parseghian, the game (a 10-10 tie) and his strategy remain much debated.

1981 NCAA Championship Game - Indiana vs. North Carolina

Ronald Reagan was critically wounded in an assassination attempt earlier in the day, but after much discussion, NCAA officials decided not to postpone the game. North Carolina and coach Dean Smith had already defeated the Hoosiers earlier in the season. Indiana, led by Isiah Thomas, was riding high after winning the Big Ten title and easily beating their previous NCAA tournament foes.

Tar Heels James Worthy, Al Wood and freshman Sam Perkins were no match for Thomas, who scored 19 points and had four steals in the second half alone. Indiana held Carolina to 36% shooting from the field and captured their second national title under coach Bobby Knight, 63-50.
